A Brief History and Background
I attended
a number of schools growing up - Our Lady of Sorrows elementary
school, Vancouver, BC; Notre Dame High School, Vancouver,
BC; and graduated from Skeena Secondary High
School,
Terrace,
BC. Returned to Vancouver and graduated from Simon Fraser
University, Burnaby, BC, with a degree in Mathematics
(Honors). While at university, married my highschool sweetheart,
and began the journey and adventure of raising
a family that
continues today.
Upon
graduating from university, we returned to Terrace, BC, where
we spent 15 years active in a variety of enterprises including
logging, trucking, log home building, and
computer retail management. What a grand adventure,
what a fantastic time of family experiences,
personal growth, new challenges, adventures, and accomplishments.
It was through this period of time that we developed a keen
interest in the outdoors and adventuring. Built our
dream log home and
engaged in the entrepreneurial spirit, owning our own businesses.
As
the economy cooled, the opportunity
to manage a computer retail store presented itself, followed
by marketing computers
to
schools and colleges throughout the northern half of BC.
The seeds of teaching sown many years ago began to take hold,
and
shortly we were living in Prince George, BC enrolled in Simon
Fraser University's Teacher Professional Development Program.
Upon completion we entered the teaching profession, teaching
Mathematics and Physics (and assorted other courses along the
journey) in School District 57. Moved to the school
distict's Continuing Education School in 2000. While employed
with School District 57, built a successful web development
business. With the amalgamation of Continuing Education, the
Central Interior
Distance
Education
School (CIDES), and 15 Alternative Education Programs into
one organization - Continuing and Distance Education Services
- opportunities
for personal growth in education, career, and experiences have
continuously presented themselves.
Today
I teach online courses and provide support for the distance
education teachers of the Central Interior Distance Education
School. The role
that I fill, draws together a wide background of experiences
in teaching,
computers,
management, administration,
and
working with adults. These are exciting and challenging times
for our school. The journey continues. |
