Our Website
Avis and Richard Giroday

Welcome to the family history website of Richard and Avis de la Giroday. We have embarked upon the wonderful and grand journey, developing the geneological connections and histories of our ancestors. For many years we have gathered information from our parents, relatives, and various sources, and have felt strong impression to move forward at this time to prepare, correlate, organize, write, and present as much information that we have in a public way so that others who are surely attempting the same, may benefit from our work and we from theirs.

We have just finished preparing a book for the web. It is the complete conference presentation of Richard's grandfather Marie Joseph Emmanuel Boyer de la Giroday, given in Curepipe, on the Island of Mauritius, in 1926. The book, written in French, was passed to Richard by his mother, shortly after the death of his father. We have provided the content of the book in a pdf file and also an English translation of the book, in pdf format as well. This book is a wonderful insight into this wonderful talented, educated, adventurous, compassionate, esteemed gentleman. We have also prepared a timeline specifically for him as additional background information. This timeline is only a beginning and as mentioned before, time constraints prevent us from completing any more at this time. As I spent the many hours required to translate this precious document, I came to realize its historical significance, and believe it needs to be donated to a national museum in Mauritius, for its historical value, or to the National Archives of Canada, (it is an interesting snapshot of all of Canada taken in 1926).

I just stumbled across the Canada - Mauritius Cultural Association of Ottawa.

As previously mentioned, we are just now beginning to make available the materials we have and look forward to assisting others who have the same connection with our ancestors.

We have now made the connection of the first Boyer de la Giroday to leave France and settle in the French colony of Mauritius Island.

For those, also working on the geneology of Boyer de la Giroday, Delesalle, Fortin, Tennant, or Hargreaves, we may be contacted by email (richard @att thewebworks dot bc dot ca , this email address has been coded so that spam bots cannot acquire it.) or by postmail
